Hope’s Heroes began in 2009 with this mission in mind: to provide an opportunity in which challenged athletes and able-bodied athletes in our community can experience the thrill of competition together. And this remains our mission today!
Hope’s Heroes is not your typical 5K race.
Hope’s Heroes is not about setting a PR in a 5K race, though perhaps some of you will. Hope’s Heroes is not about running in a race and then going back home, though you are welcome to do that.
Hope’s Heroes is an experience, not just a race.
It’s a community celebration, not just an athletic event.
It’s for the entire family, not just runners.
The atmosphere is joy-filled. You sense it as soon as you pull into the parking area, and it continues long after the 5K race and the Fun Run are over. There is a Kid Zone with children’s activities all day, and the Chick-fil-A cow (sponsor of the Post Race Party) always puts a smile on everyone’s face.
Hope’s Heroes is the combined efforts of two non-profit organizations who serve families touched by disabilities – Athletes Serving Athletes and Young Life Capernaum. These two organizations will receive all the proceeds from the race to help further their great work in the disabilities community in our area.
Whether you just enter and run, or are part of a team challenge, or recruit people to sponsor you as you run, or sign up to help a challenged athlete compete … your involvement in Hope’s Heroes will make a huge difference in our community, and we hope in you as well.
